Natural language generation is a branch of artificial intelligence that produces human-like text from data, instructions, or other input. Where a spreadsheet shows numbers, NLG explains them in sentences; where a chatbot receives a question, NLG writes the reply.
A simple example makes the idea concrete. Given the data "city: Hanoi, high: 33°C, rain chance: 70%," an NLG system might write: "Hanoi will be hot tomorrow, with a high of 33°C and a strong chance of afternoon showers." The facts are the same, but the output reads like something a person wrote.
Modern NLG goes far beyond reports. Powered by large language models, it now writes articles, emails, summaries, code, and conversational answers, which makes it one of the core technologies behind generative AI.
