The word cinematic does almost nothing in a prompt. Put it in and you get a slightly darker stock photo with an orange and teal filter, because the model has no way of knowing which of the hundred things that word covers you actually meant.
What makes an image read as a film still is a small set of specific decisions: one motivated light source, a wide frame, a restrained palette, a named lens, a camera that is standing somewhere particular, and a moment that has a before and an after. Name those six and you can drop the word entirely.
The seventy-five prompts below all do that. They work in ChatGPT and any comparable image model. For image prompting more generally see our AI image prompts collection, and Gemini prompts for image breaks the same craft down variable by variable.
The Cinematic Photo Prompt Formula
Every prompt below is built on the same shape. Read one and you can see the parts:
[Subject and the moment] + [Location and camera position] + [One light source] + [Palette] + [Lens and aperture] + [Aspect ratio]
One motivated light source. Not dramatic lighting - a light that exists in the scene for a reason: a window, a lamp, a screen, a headlight, a doorway. Two sources look like a studio. Three look like a stock photo.
A wide frame. 2.39:1 or 21:9. This single clause does more than any amount of mood description, because it changes how the subject sits in the space.
Two or three named colours. Teal and amber is one option, not the only one. Sodium orange against near-black, or pale grey with one warm accent, will separate your image from everything else generated that day.
A lens and an aperture. 35mm anamorphic and 85mm at f/1.4 are different films. Naming the glass sets the depth, the compression and the amount of the world you can see.
A camera standing somewhere. From the seat opposite, from the doorway, from street level, from directly above. Leave it out and you get the same neutral middle distance every time.
A moment with a before and an after. A film still is a frame from a story. Somebody has just arrived, is about to speak, has stopped walking. That is the difference between a photograph and a portrait.
Using the word instead of the decisions:
Dark cinematic portrait with cold colour grading, slow-burn thriller mood.
Making the decisions instead:
A man in his forties sitting still in a dark room, having just heard something. Shot from a low corner of the room so the ceiling is in frame. The only light is a television just out of shot, cold and flickering across one side of his face. Blue-grey with no warm tones anywhere. 40mm at f/2, 2.39:1, fine grain.
The second one never says cinematic and looks far more like a film. Every prompt below follows that principle, so you can lift the structure and change the subject.
Cinematic Portrait Prompts
Fifteen portraits, each built around a moment rather than a pose. Swap the person and keep everything else and they still work. An AI portrait generator takes any of these directly if you would rather skip the chat step.
1. Train window at night
A woman in her sixties at a train window at night, looking out rather than at the camera. Shot from the seat opposite at eye level. One warm practical light above her from the left, with reflected platform lights as soft bokeh behind. Muted teal and amber, 50mm at f/2, 2.39:1, visible skin texture.
2. Parked car, engine off
A man sitting alone in a parked car with the engine off, hands still on the wheel. Shot through the windscreen from just in front of the bonnet. Sodium street light from above right, everything else falling into shadow. Orange highlight against near-black, 35mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1.
3. The second before speaking
Somebody caught in the second before they say something difficult. Shot at eye level, placed off-centre with empty space in the direction they are looking. Soft window light from camera left, deep shadow on the right of the face. Desaturated with one warm accent, 85mm at f/1.8, 21:9.
4. Kitchen at six in the morning
A woman making coffee in a small kitchen at six in the morning, not yet properly awake. Shot from the doorway so the frame of the door is visible at the edge. Early light through a half-closed blind, striped across the counter. Muted greys with warm skin tones, 35mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1, fine grain.
5. Waiting in a corridor
A person sitting on a plastic chair in an empty hospital corridor, coat still on. Shot from further down the corridor so the perspective lines converge behind them. Overhead fluorescent strips as the only light. Cold green-white with no warm tones, 28mm at f/4, 2.39:1.
6. Backstage, about to go on
A performer standing in the dark at the edge of a stage, waiting to walk on. Shot from behind and slightly to the side so the lit stage is a bright shape beyond them. Stage light spilling from frame right as the only source. Near-silhouette against warm white, 50mm at f/2, 2.39:1.
7. Reading something that changes things
A person standing in a hallway reading a letter they have just opened, coat half off. Shot from the far end of the hallway. Daylight through a glazed front door behind them, everything else unlit. Pale blue-grey with one dark silhouette, 50mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1.
8. Silhouette in a doorway
A figure standing in an open doorway seen from inside a dark room, nothing of the face visible. Shot straight on at eye level with the doorway centred. Warm daylight outside as the only source, cool dark interior in the foreground. High contrast, two tones only, 35mm at f/4, 2.39:1.
9. Watching somebody leave
A person at a window watching somebody walk away down the street below, hand resting on the frame. Shot from inside the room, slightly behind them, so we see what they see. Overcast daylight through the glass, no interior light on. Flat grey-green, 50mm at f/2.8, 21:9.
10. Hands at a table
Close on two hands resting either side of an untouched cup, no face in frame. Shot from just above table height. Single window light from the left raking across the wood grain. Warm neutrals with deep shadow, 85mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1, enough detail to read age and work from the hands alone.
11. Caught laughing
Somebody mid-laugh at a crowded table, eyes closed, not aware of the camera. Shot from across the table with other people blurred at the edges of the frame. Warm overhead pendant light directly above. Amber and deep brown, 50mm at f/1.8, 2.39:1, natural available light only.
12. Asleep in an armchair
An older man asleep in an armchair with a book fallen shut on his lap, late evening. Shot from a low side angle at the height of the chair arm. One table lamp beside him as the only light, the rest of the room dark. Warm tungsten against near-black, 50mm at f/2, 2.39:1.
13. In the mirror, getting ready
A woman seen in a bathroom mirror, paused mid-action and looking at her own reflection rather than at what she was doing. Shot over her shoulder so both she and the reflection are in frame. Bare bulb above the mirror as the only source. Cold white with skin as the only warm element, 35mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1.
14. Standing in the rain
A person standing still in heavy rain, not sheltering, hair and coat already soaked. Shot from slightly below eye level at street level. Shop signage from behind as the only light, catching the falling rain. Magenta and cyan against near-black, 50mm at f/2, 2.39:1, visible individual raindrops.
15. Straight at the camera
A young woman looking directly down the lens, not smiling, entirely composed. Shot head-on at eye level, centred, filling the frame from the shoulders up. Single large soft source from directly in front, one dark card at each side for edge definition. Neutral palette with one strong wall colour behind, 85mm at f/2.8, 4:5.
Notice that prompt 15 breaks the wide-frame rule on purpose. A straight-on portrait wants a tall frame, and knowing when the rule stops applying is the point of learning it.
Cinematic Urban and Street Prompts
Fifteen street scenes. The city gives you light sources for free - signage, streetlamps, shop windows, headlights - so every one of these names exactly which one is doing the work and leaves the rest dark.
16. Rain-slick alley
A figure in a long coat walking away down a narrow alley after rain, already halfway into the dark. Shot from street level directly down the length of the alley. Shop signage reflected on the wet ground as the only light, no streetlamps, no moon. Magenta and cyan against near-black, 35mm anamorphic, 2.39:1.
17. Diner seen from the street
A late-night diner seen from the pavement outside through its window, one customer at the counter and nobody else. Shot straight on from across the road. The diner's own fluorescent strips as the only light, spilling onto wet tarmac. Teal exterior against sodium orange interior, 50mm at f/2, 2.39:1, fine grain.
18. Empty car park at golden hour
A completely deserted supermarket car park at golden hour, shopping trolley abandoned in the middle. Shot at chest height from one corner so the painted bays lead the eye across. Low sun directly behind camera, shadows stretching towards it. Warm amber on cracked grey, 35mm at f/5.6, 2.39:1, deliberately banal.
19. Underpass
One person walking through a pedestrian underpass, small against the tunnel. Shot from the entrance so the tiled walls converge to a bright rectangle at the far end. Wall-mounted strip lights along one side only. Yellow-green tile against deep shadow, 24mm at f/4, 2.39:1, strong symmetry.
20. Bus stop at night
A single lit bus shelter on an otherwise dark road, one person inside looking at nothing. Shot from across the road at eye level, the shelter placed to one side with empty road filling the rest. The shelter's own advertising panel as the only light source. Cold white box in a black frame, 50mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1.
21. Rooftop at blue hour
A person sitting on a rooftop edge with the city below at blue hour, seen from behind and slightly above. Practical window lights coming on across the buildings as the only warm elements. Deep blue graduating to teal, 24mm at f/4, 21:9, wide and static with no drama.
22. One still person in a crowd
A busy pavement at rush hour where everybody is moving except one person standing still, facing the wrong way. Shot at eye level from within the crowd. Overcast daylight, flat and even. Desaturated except for one coat colour, 50mm at f/2.8 with a slow shutter so the crowd blurs and the still figure is sharp, 2.39:1.
23. Shutters coming down
A shopkeeper pulling down a metal shutter at the end of the day, caught mid-motion. Shot from the opposite pavement at slight distance. Interior light still on behind the half-closed shutter, spilling out at the bottom. Warm interior against cold blue street, 35mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1.
24. Fire escape
A figure sitting on a metal fire escape three floors up, legs through the railing. Shot from the street below looking up so the building fills most of the frame. Warm light from the window behind them, street dark below. Rust and brick against deep shadow, 35mm at f/2.8, 21:9.
25. Market before opening
A street market at dawn with traders setting up, crates still stacked and nothing sold yet. Shot from one end at eye level down the row of stalls. Early low sun coming down the street from behind the stalls, catching steam and dust. Pale gold with cold blue shadow, 35mm at f/4, 2.39:1.
26. Waiting at the lights
A driver seen through a car side window while stopped at a red light at night, staring straight ahead. Shot from the pavement, close to the glass, with rain on it. Traffic light and dashboard glow as the only sources. Red and green on a dark face, 50mm at f/1.8, 2.39:1, water distortion across the frame.
27. Through a bus window
A city street seen from inside a moving bus, condensation on the glass and the interior reflected faintly over it. Shot from a seat, camera at window height. Streetlights outside as the only light, interior unlit. Cold blue outside with a ghost of warm interior reflection, 35mm at f/2, 2.39:1, motion blur beyond the glass only.
28. Laundrette at midnight
The inside of a laundrette at midnight with one person waiting, sitting on a machine. Shot from the far end so the row of machines runs away down the frame. Overhead fluorescent tubes as the only light. Green-tinted white on worn tile, 28mm at f/4, 2.39:1, documentary framing.
29. Top level of the car park
The open top floor of a multi-storey car park at dusk, two cars parked far apart and nobody visible. Shot low and wide so the concrete floor dominates and the skyline sits high in the frame. Last daylight only, no lights on yet. Grey concrete against a violet sky, 24mm at f/5.6, 2.39:1.
30. Street from above
A quiet residential street seen from a first-floor window at night, one person walking a dog. Shot looking down at roughly forty-five degrees with the window frame just visible at the edge. A single streetlamp as the only light, pooling on the pavement. Sodium orange in a black frame, 50mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1.
If a street scene comes back looking generic, the cause is almost always that you allowed more than one light source. Name one, say the rest is dark, and run it again.
Fifteen landscapes. The hour does more work here than anything else, so each one names a specific time and sun position rather than asking for natural light.
31. Valley at first light
A misty mountain valley at sunrise with ridgelines fading into haze one behind another. Shot from a high vantage point looking down the valley. Sun low and behind the peaks so their edges glow and everything below stays cold. Cool blue foreground against warm gold sky, 24mm at f/8, 2.39:1, wet rock in the near foreground.
32. Desert road at dusk
One car stopped on an empty desert road at dusk with its headlights on and nobody visible. Shot from a low front angle at road level so the tarmac fills the lower third. Sun already below the horizon, headlights as the only hard light. Burnt orange ground against deep violet sky, 28mm at f/5.6, 2.39:1.
33. Coast in a storm
A rocky coastline in heavy weather with spray coming over the rocks, no people. Shot from land at chest height with the horizon low in the frame so the sky dominates. Flat storm light with no visible sun. Grey-green sea against slate sky, one white line of foam, 35mm at f/8, 2.39:1, long enough exposure to smooth the water slightly.
34. Forest in fog
A dense pine forest wrapped in low fog with one narrow path leading into it. Shot at eye level standing on the path so it feels like being there. Diffuse overcast light, no direction and no shadows. Deep green and grey with almost no other colour, 50mm at f/4, 2.39:1, visible depth layers between trunks.
35. Frozen lake at dawn
A frozen lake at first light with a single set of footprints crossing it and disappearing. Shot low from the shore so the ice surface runs away flat to the far bank. Pale pre-sunrise light with no direct sun. Near-white and pale blue with one dark treeline, 35mm at f/8, 2.39:1.
36. Field before rain
An open field of long grass under a sky about to break, wind visible in the grass. Shot from within the grass at waist height. Sunlight breaking through one gap in the cloud and lighting a single band of the field. Bright gold strip against dark green and charcoal sky, 35mm at f/5.6, 2.39:1.
37. Cliff edge, wide
A very small figure standing near a cliff edge, deliberately tiny in the frame. Shot from a distance and slightly above so the scale of the drop reads. Late afternoon side light raking across the cliff face. Warm rock against cold sea, 70mm at f/8, 2.39:1, the figure occupying less than a twentieth of the frame.
38. One tree, hard light
A single bare tree alone in a flat field, nothing else in frame. Shot straight on at eye level with the tree exactly centred and the horizon low. Hard midday sun from directly behind camera casting a short black shadow towards the viewer. Bleached yellow ground, one dark shape, hard blue sky, 50mm at f/11, 2.39:1.
39. River at dusk
A slow river at dusk with mist forming above the surface and one small boat moored. Shot from the bank at water level. Last light behind the far treeline, everything nearer in silhouette. Pale pink sky reflected on dark water, 50mm at f/4, 21:9, sharp reflection with no wind.
40. Snow, near-monochrome
A snow-covered landscape during falling snow with one fence line running across it. Shot at eye level, the fence entering bottom left and leaving mid right. Flat white overcast light with no visible sun. Near-monochrome with a single warm accent somewhere small, 35mm at f/5.6, 2.39:1, visible falling flakes.
41. Volcanic ground
Black volcanic ground with steam venting from cracks, no vegetation anywhere. Shot low and close so the texture of the rock fills the foreground and the horizon sits high. Overcast diffuse light with steam catching what there is. Black and pale grey with one rust-orange mineral streak, 35mm at f/8, 2.39:1.
42. Wheat at golden hour
A wheat field at golden hour with the low sun coming through the heads from behind them. Shot from within the crop at head height, backlit. Sun in frame at the edge, everything glowing at the edges. Amber and deep gold with a cool shadow line at the bottom, 85mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1, shallow depth so only one band is sharp.
43. Abandoned building in a landscape
A single derelict farm building alone in open country, roof partly gone. Shot straight on and centred from middle distance, horizon through the middle of the frame. Flat overcast light, no drama. Grey-brown stone against grey-green field, entirely desaturated, 50mm at f/8, 2.39:1.
44. Sea from a boat
Open sea with no land visible, seen from low on a small boat with part of the hull in frame. Shot at deck level so the horizon tilts slightly. Overcast light with one brighter patch on the water in the distance. Grey-green with a single silver highlight, 35mm at f/5.6, 2.39:1.
45. Dunes from above
Sand dunes seen from directly overhead so the ridgelines read as pure pattern with no horizon. Raking low sunset light picking out every ripple in the sand. Warm apricot highlights against deep umber shadow, telephoto compression from height, square 1:1, texture as the entire subject.
If a landscape comes back looking like a postcard, take something out rather than adding something. Emptiness is what makes these read as a frame from a film rather than a destination photograph.
Cinematic Fantasy and Sci-Fi Prompts
Fifteen invented worlds. The rule that keeps them from becoming concept art: one impossible element, everything else photographed normally, including the light.
46. The tree in the cave
An enormous tree growing inside a dark cavern, its leaves glowing cyan and violet. Shot from a ledge partway up so the scale reads downward. The glow is the only light in the entire frame. Cyan and violet against absolute black, 24mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1, one tiny human figure on a lower ledge for scale.
47. Derelict station corridor
A long corridor in an abandoned orbital station, panels missing and dust in the air. Shot from one end with the corridor receding to a vanishing point. Emergency strip lighting along the floor only, everything above in shadow. Cold amber floor glow against grey-blue, 28mm at f/4, 2.39:1, visible dust catching the light.
48. Two moons, ordinary street
An entirely ordinary suburban street on an ordinary evening, except there are two moons in the sky and nobody is looking up. Shot at eye level from the pavement, framed exactly as a normal street photograph would be. Ordinary streetlight and porch lights only. Naturalistic palette with no stylisation at all, 35mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1.
49. Creature on a branch
A creature that is part wolf and part owl crouched silently on a mossy branch at night, feathers across the shoulders and fur over the body. Shot from a branch opposite at its eye level. Cool moonlight from behind giving a rim edge, faint warm underlight from below. Blue-grey with amber eyes, 135mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1, individual hairs and feather barbs resolved.
50. City on the back of something
A walled town built on the shell of an enormous slow sea turtle wading through shallow water, small boats around its feet. Shot from a low boat so we look up at it. Warm evening sun from the side casting long shadows across the water. Amber and deep teal, 50mm at f/8, 2.39:1, photographed as though it were an ordinary coastal scene.
51. Brass machine in sand
An enormous brass machine of unclear purpose half buried in desert sand, still slowly turning. Shot wide from ground level so the scale reads against the dunes. Hard midday desert sun from directly above. Verdigris green on brass against bleached sand, 24mm at f/11, 2.39:1, sand visible in the mechanism.
52. Underground city, no doors
A city carved from stone deep underground with no doors anywhere, corridors receding into darkness. Shot from a raised walkway looking across and down. One figure far below carrying a lamp, the only light in the frame. Warm lamp pool against cold grey stone, 35mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1.
53. One crew member
A single crew member asleep at a console on a working spacecraft, screens still running. Shot from behind and above the seat. Console screens as the only light source, cold and uneven across the face. Blue-green screen glow against black, 40mm at f/2, 2.39:1, worn and used rather than clean.
54. The astronomer
An alien astronomer with elongated features and iridescent skin studying a floating star map, entirely absorbed. Shot at their eye level from close. The star map is the only light, reflecting across their face and shoulders. Deep indigo, teal and gold, 85mm at f/1.8, 2.39:1, painterly rather than photographic.
55. Something open in a field
A vertical tear of light standing upright in the middle of an empty field at dusk, grass bent away from it. Shot from thirty metres back at chest height, the tear small in a wide frame. The tear is the only light source, throwing long shadows towards the camera. White-gold against blue dusk, 35mm at f/4, 2.39:1, no people.
56. Flooded city
A city street flooded to first-floor level with water perfectly still, plants growing from the upper windows. Shot from a small boat at water level. Overcast diffuse daylight, no sun. Green water reflecting grey buildings, entirely desaturated, 28mm at f/5.6, 2.39:1, mirror-sharp reflection.
57. Whale above the rooftops
A full-size whale floating silently above suburban rooftops on a grey afternoon while somebody below carries shopping in without looking up. Shot from the street at eye level. Flat overcast daylight, entirely ordinary. Muted greys and greens, 35mm at f/5.6, 2.39:1, calm rather than dramatic.
58. The door in the tree
A small carved door at the base of an old oak, slightly ajar with warm light coming from inside. Shot low and close from the forest floor. Late afternoon sun through the canopy above, warm interior light through the gap. Green-gold woodland against a warm slot of light, 50mm at f/2, 2.39:1, nobody visible.
59. Small figure, large dark
A lone figure in a pressure suit standing on a grey airless plain with a planet filling a third of the sky behind them. Shot from a distance so they are very small. Hard unfiltered sunlight from one side, absolute black shadow on the other, no atmosphere to soften anything. Grey, white and one planet colour, 50mm at f/8, 2.39:1.
60. Overgrown machine
A large humanoid machine kneeling in a meadow, powered down long ago, vines growing over one leg and birds nesting in the shoulder. Shot from the grass at ground level looking up. Soft overcast light, no drama at all. Muted green and rust, 35mm at f/5.6, 2.39:1, weathered matte paint rather than gloss.
Light the impossible thing the way you would light a real one. The moment the lighting turns fantastical too, the image stops being a film still and becomes an illustration.
Cinematic Film-Style and Experimental Prompts
Fifteen built around a technique rather than a subject. Each names a specific optical or photographic effect, which is what separates these from asking for a film look and hoping.
61. Anamorphic flare
A figure walking towards a single bright practical light at the far end of a dark space. Shot head-on so the light sits just off centre. That light is the only source and produces a horizontal blue anamorphic streak across the frame. Near-black with one blue streak and warm skin, 40mm anamorphic at f/2, 2.39:1, oval bokeh.
62. Long exposure light trail
A person standing completely still at night while a warm light moves in a path around them. Shot on a tripod from eye level. The moving light is the only source. Streaked amber against near-black with the figure perfectly sharp, 35mm at f/8, long exposure, 2.39:1, dark clothing.
63. Slatted blind shadows
A person standing where hard light through a slatted blind falls across their face and body. Shot straight on at eye level, close. One hard source outside the window, everything else unlit. High contrast monochrome, 50mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1, the stripes falling across the eyes rather than avoiding them.
64. Through wet glass
Somebody photographed through a rain-covered pane of glass so the face is partly dissolved by the water. Shot from the far side of the glass, focused on the droplets rather than the person. Cold outdoor daylight only. Blue-grey with skin barely warm through the distortion, 85mm at f/2, 2.39:1.
65. Fog and one hard light
A figure standing in low fog lit by a single hard source from the side, the beam itself visible in the air. Shot from the opposite side at eye level. That one beam is the only light. Deep black surround with a hard white shaft, 50mm at f/2.8, 2.39:1, sculpted rim on one side of the body only.
66. Double exposure
A profile portrait combined with a landscape in a single in-camera double exposure, the landscape appearing inside the silhouette. Shot as a clean profile against a bright background so the second image reads. Muted palette of no more than two colours, 85mm at f/4, 4:5, plain dark clothing for a clean edge.
67. Handheld, mid-movement
Somebody moving quickly through a corridor, shot handheld from just behind and slightly below so the frame is not level. Overhead strip lights passing overhead as the only source. Desaturated with green cast, 24mm at f/2.8, slight motion blur at the frame edges only, 2.39:1, urgent rather than composed.
68. Tilted corridor
An empty institutional corridor with the camera tilted eight degrees off level and one gurney in the mid-ground. Shot from one end so the ceiling lights recede to a vanishing point. Overhead fluorescent only. Cold green-white with a slight vignette, 28mm at f/4, 2.39:1, unsettling without anything overt in the frame.
69. Lit by a screen
A face in a dark room lit entirely by a television just out of frame, the light changing across it. Shot close and slightly below eye level. That screen is the only source, cold and uneven. Blue-grey with no warm tones anywhere, 40mm at f/2, 2.39:1, the eyes catching the brightest part.
70. Reflected in a puddle
A city street seen entirely as a reflection in a puddle, with only a strip of real pavement at the top of the frame. Shot with the lens almost at ground level. Streetlights and signage as the only sources. Inverted composition, warm signage against wet black, 35mm at f/4, 2.39:1.
71. Framed within the frame
A person seen through a doorway from another room, the dark door frame enclosing them on all four sides. Shot straight on from the dark room so the frame reads as pure black. Only the far room is lit, by a window off to one side. Bright interior in a black border, 50mm at f/4, 2.39:1, the figure small within the opening.
72. Extreme close on an eye
An extreme close-up of one eye filling the frame, a window reflected in the iris. Shot macro, square to the face. Single soft window light from the front producing one clean catchlight. Warm brown iris against cool reflection, 100mm macro at f/5.6, 2.39:1, individual lashes and skin texture resolved.
73. Two planes, one frame
A split-diopter shot where an object very close to the lens on the left and a person far away on the right are both sharp, with a visible soft seam between them. Shot at eye level in a room. One window light from the right. Muted palette, 35mm with split diopter, 2.39:1, the seam deliberately visible rather than hidden.
74. Aged film stock
A family on a beach in the 1970s photographed on film that has since aged badly. Shot as an ordinary snapshot at eye level, nobody posed. Bright overcast daylight. Washed-out warm cast with a magenta shift in the shadows, visible grain, one scratch and slight edge blur, 35mm, 3:2, entirely unremarkable as a composition.
75. Frozen mid-action
A dancer at the apex of a turn with one foot off the floor and fabric still moving. Shot from a low side angle in a bare studio. One hard light from a high window, everything else dark. Warm skin against a scuffed wooden floor and black surround, 85mm at f/2.8, very fast shutter so the motion is completely frozen, 2.39:1.
Name one technique per prompt. Anamorphic flare and split diopter and long exposure in the same request cancel each other out, and you get an image with no technique visible at all.
Using These Cinematic Prompts in Chat Smith
Image models handle light and grain differently, and for anything you intend to publish the comparison is quicker than iterating on one. GPT Image 2.0 and Nano Banana Pro respond differently to the same lighting instruction, so it is worth putting one prompt through both before you start refining. An AI art generator or text to image takes any of these directly.
Change one variable per generation. If you rewrite the lighting, the lens and the palette together you will not know which change helped, and the next five attempts become guesswork. The order worth trying: light source first, then aspect ratio, then palette, then lens. That is roughly the order of how much each one changes the image. For a cinematic set in a different register, our Grok image prompts open with a shorter cinematic group. Chat Smith is free to try.
And the test that settles it: cover the top and bottom of the result to make it wider still. If the image improves, the frame was doing more work than the content, and the content needs another pass.
They are text descriptions that ask an image model for a still that looks like a frame from a film rather than a snapshot. A working prompt names the subject, the lens, the lighting setup, the colour grade and a wide frame, because the word cinematic on its own tells the model almost nothing.
