Chat Smith has added GPT-6 Sol to its model lineup — OpenAI's mid-tier GPT-6 model, built for complex coding and agentic work at a fraction of the flagship's cost, available now for all Chat Smith Pro users at no extra cost.
OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol on September 22, 2026 as the mid tier of its GPT-6 generation — trained with similar methods as the flagship, but tuned to run faster and cost far less. It carries a 1,050,000-token context window, accepts both text and image input, and has an April 20, 2026 knowledge cutoff.
What makes GPT-6 Sol stand out
Strong results at a much lower price. OpenAI halved Sol's API pricing against GPT-5.6 Sol, to $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output. On AutomationBench, a test of business workflows across 47 tools, Sol at xhigh effort scores 33.2% at $0.27 per task — the kind of economics that leaves room to run a task again rather than settling for the first attempt.
Coding that holds up on real codebases. On DeepSWE v1.1, which sets long-horizon software engineering tasks in real repositories, Sol at max effort scores 68.8%. On FrontierCode, which grades a change not only on correctness but on whether it is actually mergeable — test quality, scope discipline, adherence to the codebase's own standards — it improves substantially over its predecessor.
About half as many factual mistakes. OpenAI's internal factuality evaluation is built from de-identified real conversations where users flagged an error from an earlier model. On that set, Sol makes roughly half as many mistakes as GPT-5.6 Sol.
A clearer way of answering. Sol inherits the collaboration style introduced earlier in the GPT-6 generation — less jargon, fewer low-value details, slightly shorter answers without losing substance — which OpenAI expects to be most noticeable in technical and coding conversations. Alignment improved too: Sol shows lower rates of misleading claims about its own coding work than its predecessor.
Included in Chat Smith Pro — no extra cost
GPT-6 Sol is available immediately to all Chat Smith Pro subscribers. No upgrade, no additional charge — open the model picker and select GPT-6 Sol to get started.
Chat Smith's goal is to bring the best available AI models into one place, so users can put Sol side by side with Claude Sonnet 5 or Grok 4.5 and pick the right tool for each task without switching platforms.
GPT-6 Sol is available now for all Chat Smith Pro users at https://chatsmith.io/model/gpt-6-sol.
