Chat Smith has added GPT Image 2.5 Flare to its model lineup — OpenAI's fastest model for high-quality everyday image generation and editing, delivering better output than GPT Image 2.0 at half the latency, available now for all Chat Smith Pro users at no extra cost.
OpenAI released GPT Image 2.5 Flare on September 9, 2026, alongside GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. The two are tunings of the same model with an identical API: Flare is the everyday default, tuned to return fast, while Sunburst spends longer per request to hold finer detail. Flare accepts both text and image inputs, offers six quality settings from low through max, and is the successor to GPT Image 2.0 in OpenAI's own lineup.
What makes GPT Image 2.5 Flare stand out
Half the latency, higher quality. OpenAI positions Flare as its fastest model for high-quality everyday generation, producing better images than GPT Image 2.0 at 50% lower latency. The speed matters most in the work people actually repeat — social content, product shots, thumbnails, and quick concept passes — where waiting on a slow model breaks the rhythm of iterating.
Reference subjects that stay recognizable. The 2.5 series is markedly better at working from reference photos: subjects carry their distinctive features across new settings, styles, and compositions, and lighting and textures render more naturally. Up to 16 reference images can be attached to a single editing request, which keeps variations anchored to the original source.
Edits that leave the rest of the image alone. Flare improves localized editing and consistency across iterative edits. Art direction rarely arrives as one instruction — a color, then a prop, then a note about the light — and Flare holds the subject steady as those passes accumulate, instead of quietly redrawing everything each round.
Complex layouts and transparent backgrounds. Flare handles dense compositions where text has to stay legible — dashboards with labelled charts, transit maps with station names, posters built around a large headline — and supports transparent backgrounds natively. Output arrives as an asset you can place, not a flat picture you have to cut out.
Included in Chat Smith Pro — no extra cost
GPT Image 2.5 Flare is available immediately to all Chat Smith Pro subscribers. No upgrade, no additional charge — open the model picker and select GPT Image 2.5 Flare to get started.
Flare is also available beyond the chat model picker. In the AI Image Generator it joins GPT Image 2.0 as an additional option rather than replacing it, so workflows already tuned to a particular model keep working as they did. It also powers Design Studio, where a short brief becomes a finished layout for posters, flyers, menus, and business cards — which is where the model's faster turnaround and steadier iterative edits show up most directly. For quick single-format ideation there are dedicated generators too, including the AI Poster Generator and the AI Flyer Generator.
Chat Smith's goal is to bring the best available AI models into one place, so users can choose the right tool for each task without switching platforms.
