Gemini 3 Review: Features, Benchmarks & Pricing

Gemini 3 is the generation of Google models that launched on November 18, 2025, led by Gemini 3 Pro. At release, Google called it its most intelligent model, with state-of-the-art reasoning, a 1-million-token context window, and leading scores in multimodal understanding and agentic coding. The family also includes Gemini 3 Deep Think mode and the faster Gemini 3 Flash.

This Gemini 3 review covers what the generation introduced, how it performs on Google's benchmarks, what it costs, how it compares with Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash, and where it stands now that newer Gemini models have arrived. For a closer look at the flagship alone, see our Gemini 3 Pro overview. You can use Gemini 3 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash in Chat Smith today, alongside newer Gemini models.

What Is Gemini 3?

Gemini 3 is Google DeepMind's third major generation of Gemini models. Gemini 3 Pro was the first release, and it replaced Gemini 2.5 Pro as Google's top model across the Gemini app, AI Mode in Search, Google AI Studio, and Vertex AI. It is natively multimodal, so it can work with text, images, audio, video, and code in the same request.

Google's focus for this generation was depth: better reasoning on hard problems, stronger understanding of visual and spatial information, and the ability to carry out multi-step tasks as an agent. Google also said Gemini 3 gives more direct answers, with less flattery and fewer clichés than earlier versions.

In Google's lineup, Gemini 3 sits between Gemini 2.5 and the later Gemini 3.x releases. If you want to see how every generation fits together, our guide to Gemini models maps the full family.

Gemini 3 Key Features

Four improvements defined the Gemini 3 launch.

PhD-level reasoning

Gemini 3 Pro scored 37.5% on Humanity's Last Exam without tools and 91.9% on GPQA Diamond, two benchmarks built from expert-level science and academic questions. It also reached 23.4% on MathArena Apex, a new high for frontier models at the time. That makes it useful for multi-step math, science, and analysis, the same kind of work an AI math solver handles step by step.

Multimodal understanding

Google designed Gemini 3 to reason across formats rather than treat images or video as an add-on. Gemini 3 Pro scored 81% on MMMU-Pro and 87.6% on Video-MMMU, so it can read charts, interpret screenshots, follow what happens in a video, and connect that information to text. It is the capability behind tools that summarize YouTube videos or explain a diagram in plain language.

Million-token context

Gemini 3 Pro accepts up to 1 million tokens of input and can return about 64,000 tokens of output. In practice, it can take in an entire book, a long research paper, or hours of transcripts in one go and still answer questions about specific details, a far larger version of what an AI PDF summarizer does with a single file.

Agentic coding and Deep Think

Gemini 3 Pro topped the WebDev Arena leaderboard with 1487 Elo, scored 54.2% on Terminal-Bench 2.0, and reached 76.2% on SWE-bench Verified, well ahead of Gemini 2.5 Pro. Google launched it alongside Antigravity, an agent-first development platform where agents plan tasks and work directly in the editor, terminal, and browser.

For the hardest problems, Gemini 3 Deep Think mode spends more time reasoning before it answers. Google reported 41.0% on Humanity's Last Exam, 93.8% on GPQA Diamond, and 45.1% on ARC-AGI-2 with code execution, the strongest results in the Gemini 3 family.

The table compares Gemini 3 Pro with the model it replaced and with the faster Gemini 3 Flash that followed a month later. Scores are the ones Google reported at each launch.

Gemini 3 Flash came close to Gemini 3 Pro on most tests, and even edged ahead on SWE-bench Verified, at a fraction of the price. That is why many everyday users get more value from Flash, while Pro remains the stronger pick for the hardest reasoning. Our Gemini 3 Flash review covers it in more detail.

Gemini 3 Pricing and Availability

Gemini 3 Pro launched in preview at $2 per million input tokens and $12 per million output tokens for prompts up to 200,000 tokens, with higher rates for longer prompts. That made it pricier than Gemini 2.5 Pro but cheaper than several rival flagship models. These are API rates, separate from Google AI subscriptions.

At launch, Google rolled out Gemini 3 through these channels:

In Chat Smith, you can use Gemini 3 Pro, Gemini 3 Flash, and newer Gemini models without an API key or a Google AI subscription. Free accounts include limited use, and Chat Smith Pro raises usage limits for $9.99 per month or $39.99 per year.

What to Watch Out For with Gemini 3

Gemini 3 is no longer Google's newest model. Google has since released Gemini 3.1 Pro, a series of faster Flash models, and, in October 2026, its new frontier model Gemini 4 Argon. If you need the most capable Google model today, Gemini 3 Pro is not it.

Its headline numbers also come from Google's own launch materials, and benchmark leads shift quickly as rival labs release new models. Long prompts cost more because rates rise above 200,000 tokens, and Deep Think requires the top Google AI Ultra plan.

Finally, the model's strongest coding results depend on agent tools such as Antigravity. In a regular chat window, Gemini 3 is better suited to reasoning, research, writing, and multimodal questions than to building full applications.

How to Use Gemini Models in Chat Smith

Chat Smith brings Google's models into one app on Android, iOS, and the web, with no Google AI subscription needed. Pick a model from the model list and start chatting.

Gemini 3 Pro is the pick for deep reasoning, long documents, and complex multimodal questions, while Gemini 3 Flash handles fast, everyday tasks. Gemini 3.5 Flash adds newer improvements for writing, research, and summaries, and Google's Nano Banana Pro creates and edits pictures in the same chat.

Because Chat Smith also includes models from OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, and DeepSeek, you can compare Gemini's answer with other models side by side and keep the one that holds up. For research-heavy questions, the built-in Deep Research feature runs advanced search and reasoning across sources.

Is Gemini 3 Still Worth Using?

Gemini 3 marked a major step for Google: PhD-level reasoning, strong multimodal understanding, a 1-million-token context window, and agentic coding that set the pace for the models that followed. Gemini 3 Flash in particular still offers an excellent balance of speed, quality, and cost.

For the hardest tasks, newer models like Gemini 3.1 Pro and Gemini 4 Argon have moved ahead, but Gemini 3 Pro remains a capable all-rounder. The simplest way to see which fits your work is to try several side by side in Chat Smith, an AI chatbot that puts Gemini next to the latest models from OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, and DeepSeek.
